Most of the time, we are updating existing reports instead of publishing the report from scratch. In that way, It permits to keep the same report ID and users can access their private reports using updated data.

We are encountering problems when we update report where some items have been added. Even if the default view shows these items, they are not selected in the WDS.

Could you please tell us if there is any way to set the new view as report's default view?

Hi Sonia, we will be looking into it.

Just so we understand, when you say "even the default view shows these items", do you mean in WDS, or in the Professional Browser/Visual Builder?

And when you don't see them in WDS, does the report you are looking at, in WDS, had previously only a subset of the items selected in its default view? Let me explain, if you had a time series where the years 2000-2009 were published, but the default view prior to the update only show 2008-2009, and then you update the file with 2010 data, you are still only seeing 2008-2009? And you would want to show 2008-2009-2010?

When you click on Update files you are put into the Update files page. At the top, there is a check box "Overwrite with view from .IVT (Public Reports only)". If you check this box all the public reports, public charts and public maps based on this .ivt will be overwritten with the saved view of the .ivt. So this will preserve your item selections for all dimensions.
But be very careful this is what you want because no attempt will be made to preserve the characteristics of existing reports. Even the new title will be overwritten. If the box is not checked, WDS will update existing reports to preserve their characteristics and also accommodate changes to the source file. This is the default behaviour.

Hello Sonia,

I have assumed that you have WDS 8.0 SP1 or later. Is it possible that this particular site does not have the service pack installed? The feature I mentioned was new in SP1.

You can tell what version you have by looking at the notice of copyright, in the help section.
