Data Warehousing and Reporting

The publisher’s objective is to summarize their vast quantity of data into a compelling multi-dimensional dataset but first the transaction behemoth must first be tamed. Taming usually involves a relational technology such as MS SQL Server. With such technologies and appropriate analysis, even massive transaction files can be organized in a way that is susceptible to summarization as a multi-dimensional dataset, commonly an OLAP cube. Scalable both in terms of the number of dimensions, and the number of transactions, OLAP technologies such as MS Analysis Services can easily address large volume publishing problems, and once automated, be made to operate virtually “hands-free”.
Web Based Dissemination

While large scale multi-dimensional publishing can involve the significant amount of extra-departmental resources, where publishers wish to summarize and publish small, focused multi-dimensional datasets with little or no IT involvement, non-OLAP, publisher-friendly technologies (such as B2020’s WDS) are preferred. Such solutions can be leveraged with basic help from the technology provider, including B2020, but once deployed, can usually be maintained and updated using internal publishing resources.

Offline Data Distribution

Web-based publishing continues to be the trend in most parts of the world, with infrastructure or personal preference the only obstacles. Publishers facing desktop-sized publishing requirements can usually leverage solutions that complement their chosen web solutions. While less timely when CD-based, and susceptible to “out-of-synch” issues when web downloads are employed, these technologies do address most common infrastructure or preference concerns. Both large and small scale publishing solutions supported by Beyond 20/20 provide publishers with desktop solutions either as a complementary option or as the solution.
